Tokyo2020: President urges athletes to honor the country's name

The President, João Lourenço, urged this Saturday the athletes that will represent the country in the Olympic Games Tokyo2020, to honor the name of Angola, regardless of the number of medals that are won.

The Head of State was reacting at the Presidential Palace, in Luanda, during the handing over of Angola's flag to the delegation that is leaving for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, in Japan.

João Lourenço also said that he had no doubt that the Angolan flag was delivered in good hands.

Handed the flag by the President was handball player Natália Bernardo who, as flag bearer, recognized the great responsibility and trust deposited in him.

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Ana Paula do Sacramento Neto, said she is sure that the athletes leave for the event with a sense of victory.

The president of the Angolan Olympic Committee, Gustavo da Conceição, was also present, and assured the will of the athletes to win as many medals as possible.

The first group that leaves for the competition site on Monday includes the women's handball and sailing teams, and the rest of the group will travel on July 19.

List of athletes who will represent Angola in Tokyo2020:

Handball: Teresa Almeida, Helena Sousa, Albertina Cassoma, Liliana Venâncio, Helena Paulo, Isabel Guialo, Marília Quizelete, Juliana Machado, Natália Kamalandua, Natália Bernardo, Wuta Dombaxi, Azenaide Carlos, Stelvia Pascoal and Magda Cazanga.

Swimming: Salvador Gordo and Catarina Sousa.

Sailing: Nuno Miguel Nascimento Gomes, Manuel Caiengue Lelo, Paixão Fernando Afonso and Matias Gabriel Montinho.

Judo: Diassonema Neidy.

Athletics: Bernardo António João and Aveni Célio Reid Miguel.

The Paralympic Games will take place from August 24th to September 8th also in Tokyo.
