Remittances from Portuguese to Angola rose 4.5 percent in May

Remittances from Portuguese in Angola rose 4.5 percent, to 23.4 million euros, in May this year, while transfers from Angolans in Portugal rose 7.4 percent, to 720,000 euros.

According to data from Banco de Portugal, the Portuguese working in Angola sent to Portugal, in May this year, a total of 23.4 million euros, which represents an increase of 4.5 percent compared to 22, 4 million sent in May of last year.

The Portuguese financial regulator also reports, in the update of statistics, an increase in the amount sent by Angolans working in Portugal, whose remittances to Angola rose 7.4 percent, to 720,000 euros, in May, compared to 670,000 euros shipped in May 2020.

As usual, Angolan values ​​cover almost all remittances sent to and from Portuguese-speaking African Countries (PALOP).

Thus, emigrants in the PALOP sent 24 million euros to Portugal in May, showing an increase of 4.7 percent, while Portuguese-speaking Africans in Portugal sent 3.2 million euros in May this year, showing a strong increase 20% compared to May last year, when they had sent 2.6 million euros at the start of the pandemic.

Globally, remittances from emigrants rose 5.2 percent in May, reaching 284.4 million euros, according to the Bank of Portugal, which shows that Portuguese workers in France sent nearly 90 million.
