In a message alluding to the African Women's Day, which is marked, João Lourenço recalled that the 31st of July finds Africa immersed "in a difficult fight against the impetuous advance of the covid-19", highlighting in this scenario "the role and contribution of women, both in the first line of health care and within the family ".

"The fearless African woman is once again put to the test in a context in which poverty tends to worsen due to the direct and indirect implications of the pandemic that plagues the planet, such as the abrupt increase in the numbers of unemployment among its companions , when they are not themselves affected by the instability of job opportunities ", the message reads.

The head of state also emphasized the role of African women, in "hope for a better future in all dimensions of the struggle for the dignification of African societies".

João Lourenço greeted all African women, reaffirming their confidence in their ability to deal with the adversity demonstrated unequivocally throughout the epic process of struggle as an Angolan nation.

The date was instituted in 1962 at the Conference of African Women in Dar-Es-Salaam, Tanzania, to discuss the role of women in the problems affecting the continent.
