UN representative in Angola says goodbye with message of confidence and concern

The resident coordinator of the United Nations in Angola, Paolo Baladelli, said goodbye this Wednesday to the Angolan President, João Lourenço, after almost nine years of mission, with a message of confidence, despite the “very delicate” moment that the country and the world go through.

Speaking to journalists, after the meeting with the head of state, the UN representative left words of gratitude addressed to the Angolan people and authorities.

"I always felt very dear, very appreciated", underlined Baladelli, adding that he is aware of the current "very difficult, very delicate moment" that is not exclusive to Angola, in an allusion to the covid-19 pandemic that has already caused more than 500 thousand killed around the world.

"It will still last a while, maybe almost two years, maybe not with this intensity, but with the need to maintain a lot of precaution regarding the virus", estimated the same official, who is also a public health specialist.

Paolo Baladelli admits that the prospects will be better when "the vaccine is available" and that it is necessary to "fight for the vaccine to be available to all, so that it is universal access".

As for Angola, he expressed "confidence that Angolans have the capacity to have a developed country, where the family can prosper, and even a country that, within the African region, has a leadership role, so that other countries on the continent can learn ".

The next mission of the head of the United Nations will be in Venezuela.
