Ambassador says there is “a new Angola”, more “credible and transparent”

Luis Eugenio Bellando is leaving the post of Argentine ambassador to Angola, but he has not left the country without praising an increase in credibility and transparency in the territory since President João Lourenço took power.

After two and a half years in the country, the diplomat said that there is now "a new Angola", which is characterized by fighting corruption, improving the image, economic diversification and opening up to foreign investment.

"I arrived in Angola in 2018, shortly after the start of João Lourenço's presidency (...) No one can deny that today Angola is more credible, more transparent," said Luis Eugenio Bellando, in an interview with Jornal de Angola.

He also left the certainty that in the country "there is human capital to become a power", also highlighting the measures taken to combat the covid-19 pandemic.

The diplomat made a positive assessment of the two and a half year mission in the country, highlighting cooperation and progress in the agricultural sector. It is recalled that the volume of bilateral trade between Angola and Argentina, last year, was around 38 million dollars

When saying goodbye, Eugenio Bellando made a point of thanking "all Angolans", namely the cordiality, help and guidance for the best performance of his work.

"Angola and its generous people occupy a space in my heart," said the official, who leaves Luanda this Friday, going to Buenos Aires to later take office as Argentine ambassador in Puerto Rico.
