The President highlighted the relationship between the two countries, which "have a similar history and political trajectory". “The Republic of Angola and the Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe have a similar history and political trajectory, which serve as an element of proximity between our two peoples and encourages us to move together, to expand and deepen the existing cooperation, with a view to completion of a wide range of projects of common interest, aimed at the progress, development and well-being of our citizens ”, praised the head of state.
João Lourenço concluded the epistle by sending “wishes for good health” to Evaristo Carvalho and “for success and prosperity” for the people of São Tomé and Príncipe.
São Tomé and Príncipe gained independence from Portugal on July 12, 1975.
