Huíla: police arrest two men who were planning the death of a brother

Two men, aged 24 and 60, were arrested in Huila province while negotiating the death of their 52-year-old brother for 200,000 kwanzas in a context of belief in witchcraft and land disputes.

According to the National Police spokesman in Huila, Luíz Zilungo, the belief in witchcraft and land disputes led the two men to plan the death of their brother, who discovered the intention and reported them to the police.

Luís Zilungo, quoted by Angop, said the case occurred in the Malipi sector, 30 kilometres from Quipungo's municipal headquarters, where the suspects were negotiating the amount to be paid to the alleged killers.

"In interrogation, they (mentors) confessed that they made the first payment of 50,000 kwanzas and, after the crime was committed, they would hand over the remaining 150,000 kwanzas, but the victim found out and denounced them, having been arrested," he explained.

The belief in witchcraft and the dispute for inheritance are common in Huila, more often in the municipalities of Quipungo, Chibia, Gambos and Quilengues, an indicator of the 17 homicides registered in the last two years, due to situations of this kind.
