Preparations for the summit were discussed at a meeting held this Thursday in Luanda between a delegation from the Pan-African Youth Union and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António.
"The meeting, held at the headquarters of Angolan diplomacy, served as an opportunity for the youth delegation, led by its Secretary-General, Bening Ahmed Wiisichong, to inform Minister Téte António about the preparations for the African Youth Summit", the Government said in a statement to which VerAngola had access.
According to Bening Ahmed Wiisichong, "Angola's dynamic youth population, combined with its growing role in defining Africa's development agenda, make the country an ideal host for this year's event".
The aim is for the summit to be a platform for youth dialogue, innovation, political engagement and intergenerational solidarity.
"The Pan-African Youth Union intends for the summit to be a platform for youth dialogue, innovation, political engagement and intergenerational solidarity, in line with Agenda 2063," the statement reads.
At the meeting, Bening Ahmed Wiisichong was accompanied by "MP Sharonice Bush, president of the Youth Council of Namibia, Chiristopher Seagateng, president of the Youth Council of Botswana, and Isaías Calunga, president of the National Youth Council of Angola."
"Officially founded in 1962 in Bamako, Mali, and recognized as an organ of the African Union in 2006, the Pan-African Youth Union is the official continental organization representing the interests of African youth," the statement also states.
