On the occasion, the Minister of the Interior stated that the flow of migrants in the country has increased and, along with it, illegal immigration.
Quoted by Angop, the minister stated that the country is open "to the world", but it is "crucial that the immigration control bodies improve their methods".
"Angola is open to the world, but it is crucial that the immigration control bodies improve their methods, as in recent times it has been common to see foreigners living illegally in the country and this has consequences for the country's security and social order", he said.
According to the minister, the main concern at the moment is to find methods to stop this flow of illegal entry, given that in most cases, these are individuals seeking to exploit mineral resources, without following the appropriate legal procedures, writes Angop.
During his field trip, according to a note from the Ministry of the Interior (MININT), to which VerAngola had access, the minister also visited the construction work on the new Command Centre of the Angolan National Police (PNA) at the airport complex of the Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport.
"During the working visit to the new Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport, the Minister of the Interior, Manuel Gomes da Conceição Homem, checked the progress of the construction work on the future Command Centre of the National Police — a strategic infrastructure for the integrated management of security at the AIAAN airport complex", the note reads.
During the visit to the airport, which took place this Wednesday, the minister also "assessed the activation and gradual operationalisation of the services that make up the MININT, with emphasis on airport security, control of migration flows, civil protection, criminal investigation and public order".
The visit, according to the ministry, served to "evaluate the state of organization and functioning of the Customs Fiscal Unit and other services of the bodies that make up MININT".
