In his condolence note, the head of state said that it was with "the deepest consternation" that he learned of the plane crash that occurred on Thursday morning.
"I learned, with the deepest consternation, of the tragic plane crash that killed more than two hundred people who were traveling from the Republic of India to the United Kingdom this morning [Thursday]," said the note, addressed to the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
In the message, released by CIPRA and to which VerAngola had access, João Lourenço said he shared "the pain of the families of the passengers and crew."
João Lourenço also expressed "solidarity in this moment of profound sadness that affects the Republic of India and the countries to which some of the victims of this tragedy belonged."
"Please accept, Your Excellency, our heartfelt condolences, which I ask you to extend to the bereaved families," the President also said.
In another note, the President of the Republic expressed his condolences to South Africa for the death of 40 more South Africans, following heavy rains that affected that country.
"I have learned, with the deepest concern, of the death of more than 40 South African citizens in the city of Mthatha, in the Eastern Cape, following the heavy rains that have been falling in several regions of your country in recent days", he wrote.
In the message, João Lourenço expressed, on his own behalf and on behalf of the Angolan Executive, support and "deepest condolences to the families and friends of the deceased, for the loss of their loved ones".
The Head of State also expressed "solidarity at this time of profound sadness that is devastating" that country.
