The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, and the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço, attended a Tango and Kizomba show on Wednesday night. Called “Ritmos do Atlântico”, the show took place in Luanda and aimed to celebrate the country’s 50th anniversary of independence.

The show, which took place at the Royal Plaza Hotel, consisted of a fusion of Argentine tango and Angolan kizomba.

"The event was a presentation of the fusion of Argentine tango and Angolan kizomba, dance and music styles performed by the Tango Show Group from Argentina, led by Luis Ángel Macchi. On the Angolan side, there was musician Ivan Alekxei, who delighted the audience with his kizombas, demonstrating the cultural ties between the two countries and the artistic diversity of the Atlantic area", explains CIPRA, in a statement to which VerAngola had access.

In addition to the presidential couple, the show was also attended by the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, members of the Executive, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in the country, artists and figures from the business sector.

"In an elegant and emotional atmosphere, the Argentine group performed classic songs from the tango repertoire, such as Pasión de la Morocha, Michelangelo 70, Derecho Viejo, Si Sos Brujo, Malena and Milongueando, entertaining the audience with the mastery of the musicians and the expressiveness of the dancers", the note reads.

On the occasion, music critic Jerónimo Belo, who also saw the show, highlighted the "symbolism of the artistic fusion, admitting that it is possible that some of the enslaved Africans produced in Argentina, in contact with the local populations, a type of music that later evolved into tango".

"The show ended with strong applause for the union of two 'Rhythms of the Atlantic' and cultures that unite Angola and Argentina, at a time when we are celebrating five decades of national independence", the note states.

The show was produced by Nova Energia, with support from the Interministerial Commission for Organizing Commemorative Actions Alluding to the 50th Anniversary of National Independence.
