Without specifying the execution deadline for this project – whose implementation is the responsibility of the NGO Sociedade William Tucker 1624 –, Wanda Tucker said that it will strengthen relations of friendship and empathy between both peoples.
The Tucker family representative indicated that they intend to deepen "this relationship further" and ensure that both sides learn "from each other".
"We want to deepen this relationship further and ensure that both sides learn from each other and work in the spirit of partnership, as the most important thing is to ensure that the truth of the slave trade is known worldwide", she said, in statements in Massangano (Cuanza Norte), cited by Angop.
Hoper Harper, an American and member of the Humper city council, who is visiting Angola for the first time, was impressed by the history of the slave trade.
She said there are still no words to describe what happened: "There are no words to characterize what happened here, but the fact that we were here, we were privileged to have survived".
The woman, also of African descent, highlighted her city council's commitment to contributing to education and attracting investments, as well as creating partnerships, in order to contribute to the development of Angola, writes Angop.
It should be noted that the monument aims to contribute to the realization of common history and knowledge of the deep connection between Angola and the USA.
Remember that the Tucker family has been in Angola since June 21st, on what is their seventh visit to the country. His most recent visit will last until the end of this month and includes visits to Luanda, Malanje and Cuanza Norte.
