The strengthening of the European Union-Africa alliance in a scenario of “geopolitical and geostrategic tension” and the “potential opportunities for partnership” with Africa are the themes of the EurAfrican Forum 2022, which will take place on 28 and 29 July in Carcavelos, Portugal.

Organized by the Portuguese Diaspora Council, a non-governmental organization for development, the event will take place on the 28th and 29th of July at Nova SBE and the program of this 5th edition focuses on key themes such as education, health and science, economics and employment, energy and digital transition.

In the release of the EuroAfrican Forum 2022, it is highlighted that the "consequences of the current geopolitical and geostrategic rupture and the potential opportunities of the partnership" with Africa will be discussed.

The meeting, which takes place annually, will bring together "African and European leaders and change agents", such as entrepreneurs, academics, scientists and public and private decision-makers and will seek "new opportunities to analyze and evolve in the current context of global geopolitical and geostrategic tension. ".

"We must achieve a broader alliance to mitigate our dependence on imports and supply of global 'commodities' from other regions. Reinforcing public-private efforts will lead the European and African continents to identify opportunities towards self-sufficiency", highlights the former Portuguese Prime Minister and former President of the European Commission José Manuel Durão Barroso, 'chairman' of the EurAfrican Forum.

António Calçada de Sá, chairman of the board of the Portuguese Diaspora Council, considers, for his part, that "2022 marks a historic moment in the global geopolitical and geostrategic scenario, in which both Europe and Africa have a fundamental role to play".

"Europe must analyze and anticipate this new scenario together with its sister continent, as we will both face common challenges. Now more than ever we must join forces, and seek new opportunities for our regions and for their respective societies", adds Calçada de Sá. .

Among the speakers already confirmed are, among others, the former head of Portuguese diplomacy Paulo Portas, the president of Afreximbank, Benedict Oramah, the ministers of Health of Angola and Ethiopia, Sílvia Lutucuta and Lia Tadessa, respectively, and Koen Doens, director -general of the European Commission.
