João Lourenço expressed concern to the UN Secretary-General about the situation in the relationship between DRCongo and Rwanda, "which justifies the urgent holding of the Luanda Summit, between the mediator Angola" and the heads of State of DRCongo and of Rwanda, says a note from the press services of the Angolan presidency.
The President of the Republic will send, on Wednesday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs to Dakar, to present to his Senegalese counterpart, Macky Sall, as acting president of the African Union (AU), a message on the steps taken by Angola in fulfillment of the mandate of the Malabo Summit, adds the same note.
João Lourenço will mediate tensions between DRCongo and Rwanda and received a visit from Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi in early June, at a meeting in which various issues were discussed as part of a peaceful resolution of the dispute between the two countries.
Tshisekedi, meanwhile, acceded to his counterpart's request to release two recently captured Rwandan soldiers, having also agreed to hold a meeting, in Luanda, between the three heads of state.
Tensions between Rwanda and DR Congo worsened after the resumption in March of fighting between the army and the rebel movement 23 de Março (M23), which, according to Kinshasa, is supported by its Rwandan neighbours.
