More than 22,000 Angolans residing abroad will be able to vote in August

More than 22,000 Angolan citizens have updated their voter registration in 12 foreign countries and are eligible to vote in the general elections scheduled for August 24, the government announced.

:

"Today we send to the National Electoral Commission (CNE), the definitive computer file of the older citizens containing a total of 14,399,391 voters. Of these, 22,560 updated their electoral registration abroad, in 12 countries and 26 cities, namely in South Africa, Germany, Belgium, Brazil, France, Great Britain Namibia, Netherlands, Portugal, Democratic Republic of Congo, Republic of Congo and Zambia", announced the Minister of Territory Administration, Marcy Lopes.

The computer file contains the total number of registered Angolan voters, as well as their location, including about 10 million citizens who were transferred from the Identity Card database, including those residing abroad, as well as those who turn 18. until the date of the elections.

According to Marcy Lopes, during the period of consultations and complaints, 501,768 consultations were made via the website "meuregisto.gov.ao", by telephone and through the public service desks, and 2139 complaints were made, of which 1287 were answered and made possible and 852 rejected because they do not fit within the legal scope.

For the first time, the registration was done unofficially, consisting of the transfer of the civil registry database (identity card) to the database of older citizens.

At the same time, as identification services have not yet been implemented throughout the territory, there was a need to issue the voter card to all citizens living in remote areas, where the face-to-face registration was carried out based on testimonial evidence.

"We cannot speak of a margin of error in terms of registering voters", underlined the minister, indicating that all citizens aged 18 or over were included in the database.

Marcy Lopes said that the file also includes those she designated as "conscientious objectors", people who have never registered for the vote, but are included in the file through the automatic process of transferring the identity card database, as well as people who are sentenced to imprisonment or who die before the date of the elections.

"These are natural circumstances and others arising from the law that are not under our control because there has to be a cut-off date" for the computer file, which was also entered in the Constitutional Court.
