Angola defends more economic and business partnerships in the CPLP

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, defended this Friday “an increase in economic and business partnerships” for better cooperation at the level of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP).

:

Téte António, who was making the opening speech this Friday in Luanda at the 27th Ordinary Meeting of the CPLP Council of Ministers, the organization that Angola currently presides over, underlined that the increase in partnerships "with reciprocal and balanced advantages" leads to a comprehensive and sustainable development of the markets of the Member States, with positive effects on the quality of life of the respective populations.

In recent months, Angola has held meetings of joint cooperation commissions with several countries, including Equatorial Guinea, São Tomé and Príncipe and Brazil, to "foster economic growth, encourage dialogue and increasingly stimulate interaction between peoples", he added.

The expectation, according to the minister, is that this cooperation model "can contribute to the implementation of social and macroeconomic policies aimed at promoting greater equality of opportunities for the insertion of women in society and the increase of youth intervention in the community space of the CPLP".

Téte António also defended "greater cooperation between States in the search for common solutions based on the principle of multilateralism", in the face of the challenges of terrorism, covid-19 and climate change, among others.

"Angola remains engaged in the prevention, management and resolution of conflicts in Africa, seeking to contribute to peaceful solutions that promote mediation and political dialogue, fundamental bases for the development of a national agenda of democracy and the rule of law on the continent", he stressed. also Téte António, highlighting the "commitment" of the President, João Lourenço, in resolving conflicts.

In this Friday's meeting, in addition to Angola, the heads of Portuguese, Brazilian, Cape Verdean and Sao Tome diplomacy, the Minister of Education and Human Development of Mozambique, heads of the delegations of the republics of Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea and Timor-Leste, the executive secretary of the CPLP and the ambassador of Namibia accredited to the Republic of Angola, representing the Associated Observers of the CPLP.

Economic cooperation in the community is the central theme of the meeting, but the debate will also include the war in Ukraine.

The ministers should also consider the report of activities for the implementation of the Support Program for the Integration of Equatorial Guinea (PAIGE) in the community, financed by the CPLP Special Fund, diplomatic sources told Lusa.

The XIII Conference of Heads of State and Government of the CPLP approved, on 17 July 2021, in Luanda, the creation of a new pillar of the community, that of economic cooperation, proposed by Angola, a country that at that time assumed the rotating presidency of the organization.

But to accommodate this new objective of the CPLP, it is necessary that the member states approve an amendment to the organization's statutes, a revision that may or may not be more comprehensive, say diplomatic sources.
