Portugal and Angola sign a framework program in Defense until 2026

The defense ministers of Portugal and Angola signed this Tuesday a framework program for up to 2026, which renews current projects and deepens cooperation on topics such as cyber defence, hydrography or climate change.

"The framework program now signed renews the old and very fruitful cooperation that we have between Angola and Portugal in this field, renews the projects and the existing cooperation, and reinforces this cooperation, namely seeking to increase the level of ambition at the political and strategic level of the dialogue that we can have", said the Portuguese Minister of National Defence, Helena Carreiras.

With her Angolan counterpart at her side, the Portuguese minister was speaking at the São Julião da Barra fort, in Portugal, after the signing of the agreement for the next four years, which addresses "a set of topics of common interest, such as cyber defense, cartography , hydrography, common maritime security concerns, the peace and security agenda”.

“A variety of areas and topics related to the confrontation of threats arising from natural disasters and climate change, which will allow us to develop the cooperation that we have between the two countries in defense and in political and strategic dialogue”, she added.

The Portuguese minister also reported the signing of another agreement between the directors of the two countries' national defense institutes, "in terms of research, training and dissemination and the cooperation that has already been developed and that has greatly enriched both institutes".

The Angolan Defense Minister, João Ernesto dos Santos, highlighted "the working conditions created that allowed the signature of the framework program and the memorandum of understanding between the national defense institutes of the two countries".

"We are already committed to doing everything we can to implement all the aspects and issues that are included in the aforementioned documents", he said.
