Trial of the two activists from Cabinda postponed due to absence of judge

The trial of the two political activists from the province of Cabinda, detained in October 2021, was postponed, without a new date, due to the absence of the judge, the president of the Independentist Movement of Cabinda (MIC) told Lusa.

"We were informed in court that the judge responsible for the case is absent. A new date has not been rescheduled, they only told us that next week we will be able to know a new date", said Carlos Manuel Vemba, in statements to the Lusa agency.

This Thursday, the trial of activists António Tuma and Alexandre Dunge, members of the MIC, arrested on October 6, 2021, accused of the crimes of rebellion, disturbance of the functioning of public institutions, terrorist group and criminal association .

According to Carlos Vemba, the organization was unable to provide a lawyer for the defendants, although there was "solidarity from some lawyers who guaranteed that they would be present in court".

Carlos Vemba expressed confidence that by next week they will be able to defend their members. "If not, we will have to hunt with just the cat [official lawyers]", he said.

The two activists were detained eight months ago, and António Victor Tuma, assistant secretary for information at the MIC, is still deprived of liberty, and Alexandre Dunge has been on provisional release since May this year, for health reasons.

According to the president of the MIC, activist Alexandre Dunge, who was released with a term of identity and residence, did not appear in court due to his health condition.

"His health still inspires care, he's very weak, so far he can't stand up for a long time and he can't sit for a long time, so the most comfortable way is lying down," he explained. .

At the time of the arrest of the two activists, in statements to Lusa, the secretary for Information and Communication of the MIC, Sebastião Macaia, said that in the previous three months, together with his deputy, António Tuma, they had been carrying out political campaigns, through the social groups, appealing to the citizens of that oil province not to participate in the general elections scheduled for August this year, defending a referendum to resolve the situation in Cabinda.
