Speaking at the end of the meeting of the Economic Commission of the Council of Ministers, Ricardo de Abreu, Minister of Transport, informed that the amount of funding will allow the end of the project to be guaranteed, without having to resort to additional funding.
According to him, this was one of the requirements imposed by the authorities when the project was interrupted in order to make the necessary corrections.
"We managed to reach an agreement with the contractor in this renegotiation and define as a limit the amount available at the moment, which is US$1.4 billion," he said, cited by Angop.
The Transport Minister said that of the total amount of funding, 33.6 percent has already been executed, and it is estimated that the works will be concluded in the fourth quarter of 2022.
The covid-19 pandemic also conditioned the work done around the resumption of the works, he revealed, adding that the renegotiation of financing with China, among other factors also had a negative impact on the process.
However, despite the setbacks, Ricardo de Abreu admitted that there are now conditions to affirm that the project will be resumed in all its aspects.
He informed that more than half of the airport (56 percent), in what concerns the physical level, is already executed, explaining that a time horizon of one year will be drawn so that it will be possible to finish the engineering part, writes Angop.
The minister said that there are two phases that have to be completed: the construction of the infrastructure and the certification of the airport. The latter, according to the minister, may take between nine and 12 months.
Finally, he also took the opportunity to inform that at the meeting the pre-study of the Master Plan of the Airport City of Icolo and Bengo was presented, which should soon be analysed by the Council of Ministers.
