Covid-19: Angola adds 89 new cases, three more deaths and 18 recoveries

Angola has registered 89 new positive cases of covid-19, three more deaths, totaling 881, and 18 recoveries, in the last 24 hours, health authorities announced this Thursday.

According to the epidemiological bulletin of the National Directorate of Public Health, Luanda recorded the highest number of positive cases, 44, followed by the provinces of Huambo (14), Huila (7), Namibe (5), Malanje (5), Kwanza Sul (4), Benguela (3), and Uige (2) and Cabinda and Cuando-Cubango with one case each.

In the same period, three deaths associated with covid-19 were reported, namely two in Huila province and one in Cuando-Cubango.

The laboratories processed 1996 samples by RT-PCR. The cumulative points to 634,923 samples processed with a positivity rate of 6 percent.

Angola, which has been in a public calamity situation for more than a year, now has a total of 38,091 cases, with 881 deaths, 32,340 recovered and 4870 active cases.

The covid-19 pandemic has caused at least 3,893,974 victims worldwide, resulting from more than 179.5 officially diagnosed cases of infection, according to the assessment made by the French agency AFP.

The respiratory disease is caused by the new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, detected in late 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.
