According to the African Union Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), the total number of cases on the continent is 4,854,204, with 10,330 more in the last 24 hours.
The number of repossessed is now 4,395,506, plus 16,460 in the last 24 hours.
Southern Africa remains the most affected region, with 2,086,758 cases and 64,948 deaths associated with covid-19. In this region, we find the country most affected by covid-19 on the continent, South Africa, which accounts for 1,669,231 cases and 56,601 deaths.
North Africa is the second hardest-hit region on the continent, with 1,465,932 infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus and 44,257 deaths associated with the infection.
East Africa has 653,148 infections and 12,861 deaths, and the West African region has 473,789 infections and 6270 deaths.
The Central African region registers the fewest cases of infection and deaths, 174,577 and 2798 respectively.
Egypt, which is the second African country with more fatalities, after South Africa, registers 15,136 deaths and 263,606 infected, followed by Tunisia, with 12,720 deaths and 346,986 cases. Morocco accounts for 519,610 cases and 9154 deaths associated with the disease.
Among the countries most affected are Ethiopia, with 4171 deaths and 271,790 infections, and Algeria, with 3611 deaths and 129,318 infected.
Regarding Portuguese-speaking countries, Mozambique registers 836 deaths and 70,850 cases, followed by Angola (772 deaths and 34,752 cases of infection), Cape Verde (264 deaths and 30,523 cases), Equatorial Guinea (118 deaths and 8572 cases) , Guinea-Bissau (68 dead and 3770 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (37 dead and 2344 cases).
