Angolan magistrates and law graduates will be trained at the University of Coimbra

An agreement between the Angolan Attorney General's Office (PGR) and the University of Coimbra (UC) in Portugal will allow Angolan magistrates and law graduates to be trained in Portugal.

This agreement, recently signed, aims to help promote and deepen academic, scientific and cultural cooperation between the Angolan PGR and the Portuguese university.

"The University of Coimbra, the most prestigious Portuguese-speaking university, will develop training courses for magistrates and law graduates assigned to the Angolan Attorney General's Office, as well as other activities considered to be of mutual interest and aimed at training highly qualified technicians who can respond, within the scope of the skills acquired, to the challenges facing the Angolan judicial sector," explained André de Brito, director of the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation of the OPG of Angola, cited by the Platform.

The vice-rector of International Relations of the University of Coimbra, João Nuno Calvão da Silva, revealed that this agreement will last five years.

The vice-chancellor also considered that this agreement "more than the financial importance it will have, it is a step towards consolidating the prestige of the UC in the Lusophone world. After similar agreements with the Superior Council of the Public Prosecution Service of Brazil, with the Ministry of Justice of East Timor and the Attorney General's Office of Sao Tome and Principe, it is a great satisfaction to reach an agreement with the PGR of Angola".

Finally, João Silva also said he hoped that "the pandemic will be quickly overcome in order to carry out the consensual formations in person, and in view of the uncertainty of the public health context in the world, some will have to be taught at a distance".
