The President of the Republic admitted this Saturday, in Luanda, the possibility of a setback in the covid-19 deconfinition measures, a disease of which there are already 267 positive cases registered in the country, if necessary.

João Lourenço spoke to the press on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony for a new wing of the Emergency Service, Short-Term Internment, External Consultation and Hospital Dia da Pediatria in Luanda and pointed to the example of other countries.

The head of state stressed that in other countries there is a setback and, if there is an oversight, "it can also happen in Angola".

“Angola is not special. Angola can be different, always depending on our behavior, our attitudes ”, he said.

According to João Lourenço, the relief of measures to prevent and combat the pandemic depends on the behavior of citizens.

“If the deflation is gradual and responsible, with the responsibility of the citizens to continue to use the masks, to wash their hands frequently, to keep the distance between people, the deflation can be done without there being a great risk of increasing positive cases. therefore, everything depends on us ”, he stressed.

Asked if the existence of cases of covid-19 with an epidemiological link to clarify means that there is already local contamination, João Lourenço replied that the declaration complies with criteria defined by the World Health Organization (WHO), so, if it has not yet been announced by health authorities, “it means that the situation in Angola does not yet fit the criteria that WHO has defined”.

"If that happens, or when it happens, it is certain that the competent authorities will announce that the country has already entered into local contamination," he said.

After the third extension of the state of emergency that prevailed in the country between 27 March and 25 May, a public calamity situation was declared, with some relief in the initial measures to prevent and combat the pandemic.
