Silvia Lutucuta, in the epidemiological assessment of the pandemic caused by the new coronavirus in the country, revealed that the new case is imported, from a 22-year-old national from Russia, asymptomatic and referred to one of the treatment centers.

She stressed that the country is thus with 64 active cases, one of which deserves special attention.

According to the minister, the country has so far had 30 imported cases and 62 cases of local contamination.

The Health portfolio holder stressed that there are 457 cases under investigation, 1160 contacts of positive cases under investigation and 785 people in institutional quarantine.

The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 403,000 lives and infected more than seven million people in 196 countries and territories, according to a report by the French agency AFP.

In Africa, there are 5175 confirmed deaths in more than 189,000 infected in 54 countries, according to the latest pandemic statistics on the continent.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected at the end of December 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.

After Europe succeeded China as the centre of the pandemic in February, the American continent has the most confirmed cases, albeit with the fewest deaths.
