João Lourenço opens campaign hospital and highlights the country's “good response” to covid-19

The President of the Republic opened this Tuesday a field hospital located in the Special Economic Zone of Viana, on the outskirts of Luanda, to attend cases of the covid-19.

For the head of state, the country has been responding well to the covid-19 pandemic, with the slow rise in both the number of infected people and deaths.

"We are all working together, not just the health authorities, in order to maintain this growth rate that is not great," said João Lourenço, hoping that the situation will be reversed.

"If we can reverse the trend, it will be even better, immediately move to the stage of not having any new cases, either of infection or of loss of human life," he said.

According to the President, the field hospital, with a capacity of 1,200 beds, equipped with a ventilation system, and initially serving 600 patients, was adapted to meet the pandemic.

"The investments we are making are aimed at tackling not only this threat from covid-19, but also creating the capacity to never be surprised again, should other epidemics, endemics, pandemics arise, which, as we know, here in our continent from time to time, such as cholera, yellow fever, Ebola, Marburg, which appear from time to time ", he stressed.

The statesman announced that within a short time, more or less three to four months, the Calumbo unit will be ready, for Angola to be "in conditions to be able to face any epidemic, which, unfortunately, could arise at any time".

"This unit was adapted in a very short time, there is another unit that will be put at the service of the population very soon, there next to the Luanda Psychiatric Hospital, an annex of the Luanda Psychiatric Hospital", reinforced the President.

According to the President, the country will also count on two other field hospitals, which will be set up in the provinces of Cabinda and Lunda Norte, with a view to creating more field hospitals, "above all to stop the possibility of disease penetration by our borders ". "We are concerned with the northern border," said João Lourenço.

The Campaign Hospital of the Special Economic Zone has an area for light, asymptomatic and moderate patients, as well as an area for critically ill patients, in need of ventilation support, as well as a campaign operating room and a helipad.
