PRA-JÁ's departure from the opposition platform “disappointed Angolans”, says Ekuikui

PRA-JÁ Servir Angola accused the two parties of removing him from the opposition platform, adding that there is an "explicit desire to assassinate the character and personality" of the party leader, Abel Chivukuvuku.

In an interview with the Lusa news agency in Lisbon, where he was this week for political contacts, Ekuikui, who leads the Revolutionary United Youth of Angola (JURA), UNITA's youth wing, recognizes the legitimacy of Chivukuvuku's choice, but regrets it.

"The United Patriotic Front is a genuine idea of UNITA. UNITA had this initiative in order to bring together all the living forces of the nation to operate political change in Angola", he stressed.

The PRA-JÁ leadership "has the freedom to follow whatever path it sees fit", but, he adds, "it has certainly left many Angolans disappointed".

"We are disappointed because we cannot change positions alone. We need to promote unity and the UNITA leadership has made a great effort to promote this unity of the opposition and the Angolan people as a whole," he added.

"This departure represents a disappointment to the Angolans. However, I am certain that it does not completely nullify the effects of the United Patriotic Front. It remains current, continues with vigor and strength to continue. The project remains valid for sure. It is a platform that brings together all Angolans and remains valid. Therefore, this departure is just a way out," he added.
