PRA-JÁ Servir Angola says it was “kicked out” of the United Patriotic Front

PRA-JÁ Servir Angola, which was part of the United Patriotic Front (FPU) with UNITA and the Democratic Bloc, accused the two parties of “putting it out” of the opposition platform.

In a statement released on Friday night, the Executive Committee of PRA-JÁ Servir Angola accuses the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA) and the Democratic Bloc (BD) of “blatantly and deliberately” ignoring the resolutions of the party’s first constituent congress, which took place this week.

The party says there is “precedents of the explicit desire to assassinate the character and personality” of the party leader, Abel Chivukuvuku.

The three parties presented themselves for the 2022 general elections as part of the United Patriotic Front (FPU), a political platform coordinated by UNITA, but at the time PRA JÁ Servir Angola had not yet been legally formalized.

In his closing speech at the first congress of PRA-JÁ Servir Angola, Abel Chivukuvuku stated that he had been mandated to prepare the party for the need to advance alone to the 2027 elections, signaling his departure from the FPU.

The leaders of UNITA and BD reacted the following day: they regretted the decision of PRA-JÁ Servir Angola to abandon the opposition platform and reaffirmed their confidence in the United Patriotic Front (FPU).

The statement from PRA-JÁ Servir Angola, signed by its vice-president Xavier Jaime, points to the resolutions of the congress, namely the authorization given to Abel Chivukuvuku to move forward with the “necessary arrangements to guarantee alternation” considering only the possibility of participating in a formal coalition, stressing that they were ignored by UNITA and the Democratic Bloc.

“The National Executive Committee of PRA-JÁ Servir Angola informs that it formally accepts the condition imposed by the two parties to place it outside the FPU and announces that in accordance with the decisions of the Constitutive Congress, the party will prepare to compete and win the 2027 General Elections”, concludes the document.
