The decision was announced in a statement issued after the meeting of the Political Commission of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), in Luanda.
The party welcomed the recent meeting between Adalberto Costa Júnior and the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, encouraging the leader to “continue to build bridges for dialogue” and condemning, on the other hand, the “persistent and systematic attacks” against the president of UNITA, through the alleged “orchestration of coups d'état” and the exclusion of public media.
The meeting, which took place under the motto "For the Alternation of Power: Discipline, Loyalty and Cohesion", also addressed political, economic and social issues considered critical.
“The Political Commission notes with concern the continued deterioration of the political, economic and social situation that affects the Angolan population across the board, such as: the high unemployment rate, the exponential increase in the cost of living, galloping inflation, the interference of the executive branch in the judiciary, the obstruction of civil society participation in the dialogue in favor of laws that guarantee electoral transparency”, reads the statement.
The party leadership advocates “a joint effort to build consensus and implement policies that promote social inclusion, the well-being of citizens and strengthen the Democratic Rule of Law”.
The Political Commission also expressed solidarity with the families of the victims of the cholera epidemic that continues to affect several provinces of the country, asking the executive to “provide concrete responses to stop this epidemic”.
UNITA also expressed solidarity with the victims of the fire on the BBLT oil platform, operated by Chevron subsidiary Cabgoc, off the coast of Cabinda.
