As part of the Africa Day celebrations, João Lourenço met on Saturday at a Brasília hotel with African and Caribbean Community ambassadors.
"When we talk about insecurity on our continent, we no longer look only at the Sahel, or if we do, it is not only with the concern of terrorism, but also with the concern of unconstitutional regime changes," said the president, who ended a state visit to the capital of São Paulo on the same day.
João Lourenço highlighted current conflicts in Africa, such as terrorism in the Sahel, the civil war in Sudan, the instability in the province of Cabo Delgado, in northern Mozambique, the tension between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, and the crisis in Somalia.
"Mozambique is also experiencing a situation of terrorism and instability in part of its territory, particularly in the province of Cabo Delgado, which means that one of the major responsibilities of the African Union is to work towards effectively achieving this objective of silencing weapons across our entire continent," he said.
"We have to believe that definitive peace will come to all these regions that I have just mentioned, the Sahel, the Great Lakes region, Sudan, the Horn of Africa, (...) particularly in Mozambique, and, in general, throughout our continent", insisted the leader.
In his speech, João Lourenço highlighted that the African continent will only be able to develop if there is peace.
"It is often said that capital, investment, is allergic to the roar of cannons, it is allergic to conflict. Where there is conflict, money flees, capital flees, investment does not emerge," he stressed.
Another point on which the head of state insisted was the urgency of infrastructure development on the continent.
"We really need to make a major investment in infrastructure that will facilitate mobility, in infrastructure that will interconnect the energy of various African countries," he said.
