Daniel Chapo, who arrived in Luanda this Friday, declared it “an honour” to make this visit to the “brothers of the Atlantic” after the elections of October 2024, stressing that it is part of the strengthening of relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries “that date back to before independence”.
Stressing that the two peoples are also “brothers” in the struggle for independence that they achieved in the same year (1975), Chapo stressed that the 50th anniversary of independence, which is being celebrated this year, is also a time to assess the relations of cooperation and friendship over these 50 years and to renew this friendship and cooperation.
Addressing his “brother” João Lourenço, the Mozambican head of state thanked the Angolans for the support he received during his candidacy.
“We should not remain indifferent, after the inauguration, and not respond positively to the invitation to come and thank the Angolan people and also take this opportunity to once again say that we have felt this support in several areas. In the political, social and economic areas, but also at the level of the Defence and Security Forces”, pointed out Daniel Chapo.
Referring to the problem of terrorism that continues to affect the province of Cabo Delgado (northern Mozambique), Chapo stated that the country has received support from regional organisations, such as the Southern African Development Community (SADC), but also in matters related to transport and logistics and within the scope of bilateral agreements between the two countries.
“We also feel that, in addition to political cooperation, which is excellent, in social terms there is also an extraordinary relationship between our two peoples. We felt it was important to come to Angola to further strengthen our economic relations, because, as you said very well, today the great objective that we have as countries, Mozambique and Angola, is to create better living conditions for our peoples”, Chapo told João Lourenço, stating that “there is nothing better than two brotherly peoples working together, to grow together and develop together”.
The President of Mozambique, Daniel Chapo, began a two-day visit to Angola this Friday to strengthen bilateral relations and identify opportunities for investment and economic cooperation.
In addition to the meeting with João Lourenço, Daniel Chapo's program includes a trip to the Luanda-Bengo Special Economic Zone (ZEE), to identify “investment and business opportunities to develop in Angola”, and to participate in a dinner in his honor promoted by the Angolan Banking Association (ABANC).
