Daniel Chapo, who will be in Angola at the invitation of his counterpart João Lourenço, with whom he will meet this Friday, is accompanied by a delegation that includes the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Maria dos Santos Lucas, Mineral Resources and Energy, Estevão Pale, Economy, Basílio Muhate, and Transport and Logistics, João Matlombe, as well as the Secretary of State for the Treasury and Budget, Amílcar Tivane.

Daniel Chapo and João Lourenço "will hold official talks to exchange views on various issues of bilateral, regional, continental and international cooperation", according to a statement from the Mozambican presidency.

In addition to the meeting with João Lourenço, Daniel Chapo's program includes a trip to the Luanda-Bengo Special Economic Zone (ZEE) to identify "investment and business opportunities to develop in Angola", and participation in a dinner in his honor promoted by the Angolan Banking Association (ABANC).

The Mozambican presidency states that the visit by the head of state to Angola “is an opportunity to strengthen bilateral relations, in order to create a more proactive dynamic and identify other areas of cooperation of mutual interest, with emphasis on the economic sphere”.

According to the Angola-Mozambique Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIAM), trade between the two countries, which amounts to around US$10 million, is still modest, which hopes that the visit will be an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.

In statements to Lusa, the president of CCIAM, Célia Cipriano, stressed that the visit is a recognition of the importance of the private sector in the joint economic growth between Angola and Mozambique and will promote new opportunities and key partnerships in areas such as agriculture, tourism, industry and professional training.

This is the Mozambican president’s second trip abroad in a week, after his first state visit since taking office in January, to Tanzania, which took place from 7 to 9 May.
