More than 750 delegates will elect the first president of PRA-JA

The constituent congress of PRA-JA Servir Angola, to be held from the 19th to the 22nd of this month, has 757 delegates registered to elect the president and collegiate bodies of this party, which intends to be Government or be part of it in 2027.

Two candidates are running for the leadership of PRA-JA Servir Angola, which was legalized in October 2024, namely Abel Chivukuvuku, founder and general coordinator of the party, and Francisco Canga, the party's current secretary of Social Action, the coordinator of the congress organizing committee told Lusa.

Carlos Lucas said that parties from Portugal, England, Germany, the United States of America, Cape Verde, São Tomé and Príncipe, Mozambique, Namibia and South Africa were invited to the opening ceremony of the congress.

From Portugal, five parties were invited, including Chega, but due to the electoral period, the person in charge said he already expected the possibility of them not being present.

The coordinator of the PRA-JA Servir Angola electoral act highlighted Venâncio Mondlane, from Podemos, among the Mozambican guests, but he has not yet confirmed his presence.

At the national level, the congress will have 750 delegates, to which are added two from the African constituency and five from the Europe and America constituency, expecting a total of 850 people to participate on the opening day of the event, including delegates and guests.

According to Carlos Lucas, preparing for the congress is a challenge due to the three-month deadline imposed by the STF.

“Time is tight to prepare this congress, because we intended to hold it in October or November,” said the person in charge, stressing that there are financial and deadline challenges.

The two candidates are currently touring the country as part of their election campaigns.

“The expectation is to transform the temporary bodies, resulting from the installation committee, into definitive bodies. At this congress, we are seeking the legitimacy of the militants, in order to create definitive bodies”, he highlighted.

The congress will elect the president, the vice-president of the party and the National Political Committee, who will direct this party organization for a period of five years.

In addition to the election of the party's future leader and its vice-president, Carlos Lucas considered the high point of the congress to be the moment to outline the strategy, “approve all the necessary framework for the party”, with the 2027-2032 government on the horizon.

The Angola Renaissance Party - Together for Angola - Serving Angola (PRA-JA Servir Angola) was legalized in October 2024, after a long process that began in 2019, marked by several rejections by the Constitutional Court.

The project to create the party was presented to society in 2019, by Abel Chivukuvuku, a member of UNITA between 1974 and 2012, when he assumed the leadership of the Broad Convergence for the Salvation of Angola - Electoral Coalition (CASA-CE), which contested the elections that same year, until 2019.
