According to a statement from the provincial government of Bengo, the inauguration of the slaughterhouse, which was named 'Frango da Banda', took place this Wednesday, as part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the country's independence.
"As part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of national independence, the province of Bengo gained this Wednesday, May 28, in the municipality of Panguila, at the Fazenda Filomena facilities, the first slaughterhouse for broiler chickens, a project called 'Frango da Banda', inaugurated by the provincial governor of Bengo, Maria Antónia Nelumba", the statement reads.
In the first phase, the infrastructure, which has eight sheds for slaughtering chicken, will be capable of slaughtering 240 thousand birds per cycle, totaling 1,900,000 chickens annually.
This project, which has already generated more than 270 jobs, received foreign investment of around 17 million euros.
"In the first phase, it will be able to slaughter 240,000 birds per cycle, accounting for 1,900,000 chickens per year, resulting from a foreign investment of 17 million euros and generating 276 jobs, with only three foreigners", the statement reads.
"The industrial unit built on a space of 5.5 hectares of total area, with eight warehouses for slaughtering chicken, was created in 2020, as part of the diversification of the economy and the production of animal protein with the 'Made in Angola' seal", the statement adds.
On the occasion, the governor of Bengo considered that the project will contribute to increasing employability and reducing imports.
In statements to the press, quoted in the statement, Maria Antónia Nelumba said "it is a gain for the province because the infrastructure contributes to increasing employability and reducing imports, gradually expanding food sufficiency at a national level".
"On the other hand, the governor encouraged entrepreneurs in Bengo to look at the broiler chicken slaughterhouse as an opportunity for business initiative, reselling 'Frangos da Banda' and its derivatives", says the statement.
