According to a statement from the provincial government of Bengo, to which VerAngola had access, this hospital is the result of the Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM).
"As a result of the PIIM (Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities), the infrastructure was built from scratch, with a budget of 1,992,619,500.00 kwanzas", the statement reads.
The hospital infrastructure has capacity for 180 beds, as well as "offering various specialized services, including maternity services, pediatrics, laboratory, imaging, emergency services, dentistry, stomatology, operating room and morgue".
"The work was carried out by the company Med Invest, under the supervision of Sintec, and covers a gross area of 14,203.13 square metres, of which 3,425.15 square metres correspond to the covered area. This includes two main blocks, a morgue and two two-bedroom residences for doctors", adds the note.
At the inauguration ceremony, which was part of the celebrations of the country's 50th anniversary of independence, the provincial governor "expressed her joy and satisfaction, having called on the clinical team to act with dedication and maximum humanisation in attending to patients".
In addition, she also recommended that the population take care of the new equipment.
After a guided tour, Maria Antónia Nelumba "presented the hospital with an ambulance and a van".
"The new unit brings health services closer to the local population, who previously had to travel to Caxito or Luanda to obtain medical care. Designed as a regional reference unit, it is expected to have a direct impact on the quality of health care provided to the inhabitants of Bula Atumba, Pango-Aluquém, Quibaxe, Piri and neighbouring towns in the provinces of Uíge and Cuanza Norte", reads the statement.
The Secretary of State for Hospitals, Leonardo Europeu Inocêncio, the vice-governors José Francisco Bartolomeu Pedro and Edson Cruz, and the municipal administrator of Bula Atumba, Joaquim Cangulo, among others, were present at the event.
