According to the person responsible, the support provided this year included 6500 people. The support included cash support for citizens who were left homeless and lost their means of subsistence because of the rains, she said, without specifying the amount allocated to each family.

Delfina Cumandala, speaking to Angop as part of World Red Cross Day, celebrated this Wednesday, also made it known that the red cross team has been working together with civil protection and firefighters to identify the locations most affected by the floods, also adding that the support program was extended to three months, with a view to serving 3200 families in the aforementioned three provinces.

The project, according to the person responsible, covers monetary support, distribution of tablets to treat water, as well as the implementation of activities in terms of community awareness regarding matters of health, hygiene, safety, shelter, protection, gender and inclusion, and the active involvement of communities, writes Angop.

She said they are committed to not only "providing immediate relief" but also "empowering communities" for future adversities.

"We are committed to not only providing immediate relief, but also empowering and strengthening communities to deal with future adversities, more effectively," she noted.

Furthermore, the entity led by Delfina Cumandala also provided support to people affected by the drought in the south of the country.

According to the figures provided, until December last year the institution, together with the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, assisted more than 1000 families: "Until December 2023, with the support of the International Federation of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent, the Angolan Red Cross provided assistance to 1600 families, totaling 10,400 people in the provinces of Cunene, Huíla and Namibe", she said.

This support provides immediate support, through monetary and food support, along with resilience and medium and long-term actions, writes Angop.

The president of the CVA also said that another two hundred families were supported to strengthen their resilience, with the supply of small animals, as well as seeds and agricultural inputs, and also informed that four community kitchens were also reactivated in two municipalities in Namibe, ending up directly benefiting 2000 children.
