João Lourenço wants to see an increase in oil and gas production

After having reappointed the Board of Directors of Sonangol, this Thursday morning, the President of the Republic highlighted the importance of increasing oil and natural gas production, possible taking into account that Angola is no longer part of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries ( OPEC) and is not subject to the limits imposed by the organization.

The head of Esrado, who also sworn in the Secretaries of State for Agriculture and Livestock, Forestry and Industry, recalled that a consortium was formed and amendments to legislation were approved to encourage gas production, so that Angola "goes from a great producer and exporter of oil to a large producer and exporter of natural gas".

João Lourenço highlighted the infrastructures that will be established for the benefit of the sector and are in the construction phase, such as the Barra do Dande Ocean Terminal and the Lobito Refinery, which he said should be completed in a timely manner.

According to Angop, the PR also recommended Sonangol's transition from oil and gas producer to energy producer, as renewable energy sources are increasingly needed for the planet to function.

After taking office, the President expressed his desire for the Secretaries of State to perform positively in the roles for which they were appointed. “We expect a lot from this Council; that also has the ambition to start looking at other sources of energy production, following the example of what other similar companies have already done”, João Lourenço also told Sonangol administrators, highlighting “that the world is crying out for new sources of energy production” .

“You are already in the business, it is a matter of creating another branch that can then start meeting this pressing need to diversify energy production sources.”, reinforced the Angolan president.

Sonangol's Board of Directors is made up of Sebastião Gaspar Martins, president, the executive directors Belarmino Chitangueleca, Baltazar Miguel, Jorge Vinhas, Olga Miranda, Kátia Lutucuta and Osvaldo Inácio. The body also includes non-executive directors Lopo Nascimento, Bernarda Martins, Augusto Matos and André Moda.

Castro Camarada, who was responsible for Agriculture and Livestock, João Cunha as Secretary of State for Forests and Carlos Rodrigues as Secretary of State for Industry, were appointed and sworn in as Secretary of State.
