At issue is an incident involving deputy from the Malanje provincial circle Carlos Xavier Lucas, whose vehicle was hit with gunfire on Monday.
According to a press release from the parliamentary group of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), the deputy was unharmed, but is being treated in hospital due to a rise in blood pressure.
"The worst did not happen because of the attention and prompt intervention of the driver and escort", highlights UNITA, urging the authorities to take measures to reinforce the security of deputies and citizens, increasingly exposed to acts of organized crime, "some with unconfessed motivations".
UNITA recalls that, less than a month ago, a caravan of deputies was attacked in Longa, municipality of Cuito Cuanavale (province of Cuando Cubango), in circumstances that have yet to be clarified.
"In other circumstances, the presumed perpetrators would have already been publicly presented", says the party, stressing that "this situation increases the certainty that this is a duly prepared plan to intimidate and limit the action of the deputies of the UNITA parliamentary group".
At the time, UNITA attributed the attack to elements of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA).
