Angolan astronaut in the USA for NASA, Space X and Blue Origin exchange

An Angolan astronaut is in the United States of America (USA) for an exchange with NASA, Space X, Blue Origin and other members of the space industry.

:

This is Marco Romero, a national engineer "integrated in the first International Space Leadership Program, promoted by the Department of State in the United States of America, in the centers of NASA, Space X, Blue Origin and other members of the space industry", according to a statement sent to VerAngola.

Every year, adds the note, the US embassies choose "in the countries where they are represented, at least one of the current or future leaders, who, due to their contribution to the communities and areas of knowledge in which they are inserted, have stood out", thus offering them the opportunity to join the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP).

The IVLP refers to "a professional exchange program between the United States Department of State, Secretary of Educational and Cultural Affairs - Office of International Visitors and the Meridian International Center - Center for Global Leadership" to promote "exchange in areas such as civic engagement, small business, journalism, fiscal transparency, rule of law, environmental preservation and much more," the note reads.

According to the statement, this year, for the first time, an International Visitor Leadership Program is being implemented with a focus on the space domain, specifically on the "Next frontier involving the new generation of Space Nations".

It should be noted that, in 2020, Marco Romero was among the top 10 young people under 30 in the African space industry. The aeronautical engineer is certified in "Moon of the Solar System" by the UK Open University and in "Mars Surviving Principles" by Monash University in Malaysia, among others.

It should also be noted that Marco Romero also participated in the construction of the first national satellite, Angosat-1, as well as working in the Project Management Department of the National Space Program Management Office (GGPEN).
