Minister of Sports condemns incidents at Girabola

The Minister of Youth and Sports condemned on Tuesday the incidents with supporters of Sagrada Esperança, which left 11 injured on Saturday, at the Dundo stadium, in Lunda Norte province.

"It is with deep pain and concern that the Ministry of Youth and Sports became aware of the incidents that occurred Saturday, at the Dundo stadium, in the game between Sagrada Esperança and Petro de Luanda, valid for the 27th round of Girabola", said Palmira Barbosa.

The riots started, on Saturday, after the refereeing team annulled a goal from Sagrada Esperança, in the 43rd minute, for allegedly being offside, when the hosts were losing by 2-0.

Supporters threw benches, water bottles and other blunt objects onto the field, and as a result, eleven people were injured, five seriously, including a police officer.

The minister asked the Angolan Football Federation to open an inquiry to find out what happened and possible responsibilities.

Petro de Luanda beat Sagrada Esperança by 2-1, and increased their lead at the top of the Angolan football championship, with 62 points, five more than 1.º de Agosto, which is second, after losing on the same day to from Académica do Lobito by 1-0. Sagrada Esperança is third, with 49.
