FLEC claims death of Angolan military in operation in which Brazilian citizens died

The Front for the Liberation of the State of Cabinda (FLEC) claimed on Saturday the death of three Angolan soldiers as a result of an operation carried out on Friday in the Miconje area, Buco Zau region, in which two Brazilian citizens died.

:

In a press release, signed by the head of the FAC Special Forces, Lieutenant General João Cruz Mavinga Lúcifer, FLEC states that the two Brazilian citizens worked at Mineradora Lufo, which is dedicated to gold exploration in that Angolan enclave.

"FLEC-FAC regrets the death of two Brazilian citizens who believed in Angola's lies that Cabinda is a pacified territory", stresses the separatist organization.

In concluding the note, FLEC "once again warns all foreign workers in Cabinda who are in a territory at war and all the news of a supposed pacification of Cabinda, disseminated by the Angolan Government, are political lies that endanger the life of any unwary foreigner in the countryside and in the cities".

FLEC has been fighting for several years for the independence of the territory, from which most of the Angolan oil comes, claiming that the enclave was a Portuguese protectorate – as established in the Treaty of Simulambuco, signed in 1885 – and not an integral part of the angolan territory.

The Government normally refuses to acknowledge the existence of dead soldiers as a result of guerrilla actions by the independentists, or any situation of instability in that province in the north of Angola, always underlining the unity of the territory.
