The SEF detained, at the end of Wednesday afternoon at Lisbon airport, a foreign citizen for “strong indications of the commission of crimes of trafficking in minors, aiding illegal immigration and falsifying documents”, said this Thursday that entity.

In a statement, the Foreigners and Borders Service states that the detainee was awaiting the arrival of two minors, aged 14 and 15, from a flight from the African continent, with the aim of helping and facilitating their passage to another European country, by land.

A SEF source told Lusa that the two minors came from Angola and the man, also of Angolan nationality, but who was in Portugal, was detected by inspectors outside Lisbon airport, after the teenagers were identified in the arrivals area.

According to the SEF, the minors were holders of forged Schengen visas.

The Foreigners and Borders Service states that, "carried out several subsequent steps, it was possible to determine, by verifying the 'modus operandi' used, strong evidence of the commission of crimes of trafficking in human beings and aid to illegal immigration".

That security service says that the minors were accompanied by a multidisciplinary team dedicated to cases of human trafficking and then sent to a shelter exclusively intended for the shelter of children and young people who are victims of this crime.

According to the SEF, the police intervention led to the apprehension of forged travel documents, various documentation related to the commission of the crime, cash and a mobile phone related to the commission of crimes.

The detainee is present this Thursday at the investigating judge for the first interrogation and application of coercive measures.
