Prices of basic basket goods suffer a 36 percent drop this week

For this week (May 30th to June 5th) prices of the main basic basket goods are expected to fall by around 36 percent, compared to November last year.

Thus, according to forecasts from the Strategic Food Reserve (REA), it is estimated that cornmeal (25-kilogram packages) will be sold at 6238 kwanzas, against the previous 13,800 kwanzas. For the same amount of wheat flour, it is estimated that it will drop from 23 thousand kwanzas to 8850 kwanzas.

Forecasts, cited by Angop, also point to sugar (a 50-kilogram package) falling to 18,900 kwanzas, against the previous 24,200 kwanzas.

There will also be drops in the prices of soybean oil (12 liters), which will drop from 17,450 kwanzas to 11,000 kwanzas, in the chicken box (10 kilograms), which will drop from 10,190 kwanzas to 7200 kwanzas, and in pinto beans (bag of 25 kilograms), which will be worth 19,950 kwanzas, against the previous 24,000 kwanzas.

In the week under analysis, Thai rice (25 kilograms) will be sold at 7200 kwanzas, against the previous 11,737 kwanzas, writes Angop.

These prices, according to the REA, are valid throughout the country.

According to Angop, forecasts also indicate that in the week in question, the international market will see an average growth of 7.31 percent in the goods in question compared to the previous week.
