Félix Tshisekedi is in Luanda for a meeting with João Lourenço

The President of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) arrived in Luanda this Tuesday. Félix Tshisekedi is in the capital for a working visit to the country.

The head of state of the DRC was received at the 4 de Fevereiro International Airport by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, along with other Angolan individuals who offered their welcome to the statesman.

Although there is no official program for the visit, it is known that the President of the DRC will meet with his Angolan counterpart, João Lourenço. On its official Facebook page, the Presidency of the Republic says that the visit will only last "a few hours".

It is recalled that the DRC and Rwanda have seen the climate of tension between the two countries escalate, after the resumption of fighting last March between the Congolese army and the rebel movement of 23 March (M23), which, according to Kinshasa, is supported by the neighboring country, a charge denied by Kigali.

In April, João Lourenço was informed of the resurgence of this armed group, having been encouraged by the president of the African Union (AU), Macky Sall, to "continue his mediation efforts in this regard", in his capacity as president of the International Conference of Great Lakes Region (CIRGL).
