"It is a great pleasure to welcome my colleague, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Angola, here at the Department of State. We have a strong bilateral relationship between the United States and Angola, but also a growing partnership in mutual interests, such as trade, health, climate, governance," Blinken said at the beginning of the meeting, quoted in a statement.

The Secretary of State highlighted "some important new investments" by the US in Angola, such as Africell and Sun Africa, which are "producing real results", stressing that he expects "a future collaboration in security and transparency".

"Let's talk about all this, and I also want to applaud the important reform agenda that Angola is pursuing, politically and economically, which is having a real impact," noted Blinken.

In turn, Tete António highlighted that the meeting between the two ministers came "at the perfect moment, because on May 19, Angola celebrates 29 years of diplomatic relations with the United States".

After the meeting, which took place in Washington, the US capital, the State Department spokesperson informed that mutual commitments were discussed for a "strong bilateral relationship based on common interests in the fight against corruption and in the reinforcement of investment".

The two rulers "also reviewed progress in combating the climate crisis and promoting regional security and cooperation among Atlantic nations that share maritime challenges and opportunities in the Atlantic Basin," Ned Price said in a statement.
