Tax administration creates “lucky invoice” to encourage taxpayers to demand invoices

The General Tax Administration (AGT) announced the creation of the “lucky invoice”, an initiative presented as an incentive for greater tax collection in the economy.

:

The information was provided by a representative of AGT, Tiago Santos, during a conference on Tax Incentives as an Investment Attraction Factor, promoted by the magazine Economia e Mercado.

According to Tiago Santos, this concept is already applied in other countries: "Whenever you ask for an invoice with a VAT number [Tax Identification Number], the citizen will compete for some prizes".

"We really want all of us to be inspection agents", said Tiago Santos, stressing that "the prizes will be very attractive".

João Erse, Associate Tax Partner at Deloitte, praised this incentive, stressing that the measure is already applied in many other jurisdictions and "is an excellent novelty".

According to João Erse, this incentive "makes taxpayers monitor their own economy".

"When I demand an invoice, I am forcing that taxpayer to be in the system and I will demand it because I also have a premium that I can acquire", he said.
