Covid-19: Africa with 351 more dead and 9821 infected in the last 24 hours

Africa recorded 351 more deaths associated with covid-19 in the last 24 hours, accounting for 127,352 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic, and 9821 infected, according to the latest official data.

According to the African Union's Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), the total number of cases in the region is 4,719,742 and the number of recovered cases is 4,271,871, plus 10,268 in the last 24 hours.

Southern Africa remains the most affected region, with 2,023,255 cases and 63,535 deaths associated with covid-19 disease.

In this region, only South Africa, the country hardest hit by the covid-19 on the continent, accounts for 1,621,362 cases and 55,507 deaths.

North Africa is the second most affected area, with 1,422,856 infected and 42,627 fatalities.

East Africa records 634,835 infections and 12,323 deaths, while in West Africa the number of infections is 468,805 and that of deaths is 6183. In Central Africa, cases of infection amount to 169,991 and there are 2684 registered deaths.

Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, has 14,498 deaths and 249,238 infected, followed by Tunisia, with 12,032 deaths and 329,925 cases of infection. Morocco accounts for 515,758 cases of infection and 9,106 deaths associated with covid-19.

Among the countries most affected are Ethiopia, with 4038 fatalities and 267,597 infections, and Algeria, with 3,395 dead and 125,896 infected.

In relation to Portuguese-speaking countries, Mozambique recorded 828 deaths and 70,509 cases, followed by Angola (696 deaths and 31,438 cases of infection), Cape Verde (253 deaths and 28,699 cases), Equatorial Guinea (112 deaths and 7694 cases) , Guinea-Bissau (67 dead and 3746 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (35 killed and 2314 cases).
