Covid-19: Africa with 208 more dead and 6165 infected in the last 24 hours

Africa recorded 208 more deaths associated with covid-19 in the last 24 hours, accounting for 126,138 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic, and 6165 infected, according to the latest official data.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the African Union (Africa CDC), the total number of cases in the region is 4,684,638 and the number of recovered cases is 4,238,692, plus 5182 in the last 24 hours.

Southern Africa remains the most affected region, with 2,009,453 cases and 63,122 deaths associated with the covid-19 disease.

In this region, only South Africa, the country hardest hit by the covid-19 on the continent, accounts for 1,611,143 cases and 55,183 deaths.

North Africa is the second most affected area, with 1,411,080 infected and 42,096 fatalities.

East Africa records 630,179 infections and 12,113 deaths, while in West Africa the number of infections is 467,088 and that of deaths is 6166. In Central Africa, cases of infection amount to 166,838 and there are 2641 registered deaths.

Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, has 14,269 deaths and 244,520 infected, followed by Tunisia, with 11,779 deaths and 325,832 cases of infection. Morocco accounts for 514,817 cases of infection and 9098 deaths associated with covid-19.

Among the countries most affected are also Ethiopia, with 3,976 fatalities and 265,832 infections, and Algeria, with 3,366 dead and 125,194 infected.

Regarding Portuguese-speaking countries, Mozambique recorded 826 deaths and 70,442 cases, followed by Angola (659 deaths and 30,637 cases of infection), Cape Verde (249 deaths and 28,168 cases), Equatorial Guinea (112 deaths and 7694 cases) , Guinea-Bissau (67 dead and 3739 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (35 killed and 2314 cases).
