Covid-19: Angola announces record cases with 392 infections in 24 hours

Angola has recorded a record 392 cases of infection with the new coronavirus, as well as four deaths and 11 recoveries, in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 27,921 cases and 622 deaths, health authorities announced.

Angola recorded a record number of 392 cases of infection by the new coronavirusOnly last year had there been numbers above 300 cases per day, on October 25, when 355 infections were reported, and on November 3 with 349 records.

According to the epidemiological bulletin of the National Directorate of Public Health, the cases are distributed among the provinces of Luanda (320), Cuando Cubango (42), Huila (9), Cabinda (7), Benguela (5), Huambo (3), Namibe (2), Cuanza Sul (2), Malanje (1) and Zaire (1), being 224 males and 168 females, with ages ranging from 20 days to 83 years.

In the same period four deaths were reported, three in Luanda, all Angolans, aged between 64 and 76 years, and one in Uige, also Angolan, aged 83 years. 11 people were recovered, five of them in Luanda, four in Huíla and two in Huambo, aged between 13 and 52 years.

For now, the country has 2796 active cases, of which 16 critical, 24 severe, 112 moderate, 56 mild and 2588 asymptomatic, with 208 people hospitalized, 110 in institutional quarantine and 1536 contacts under epidemiological surveillance.

With regard to testing, laboratories processed 3721 samples by RT-PCR in the period under review, pointing the cumulative to 516,061 samples processed to date since March 2020, with a positivity rate of 5.4 percent.

At the entry and exit points of Luanda's sanitary fence, 1136 people were tested at the antigen testing base, with six positive results (four in Cabo Ledo and two in Uezo).

The covid-19 pandemic has caused at least 3,244,598 deaths worldwide, resulting from more than 155.1 million cases of infection, according to an assessment made by the French agency AFP.
