Covid-19 requires TAAG to suspend more than 30 flights a day

TAAG has suspended about 32 flights per day since the government decided to close borders, according to Jorge Bengue, director general of the National Institute of Road Transport. According to him, on average 15 international flights and 17 domestic flights were suspended per day.

The person in charge, who was speaking in the space "Conversations about covid-19", said that the airline has been quite affected by the pandemic: since March TAAG has suffered losses in the order of 70 to 80 percent.

Jorge Bengue, cited by Angop, also explained that TAAG's biggest source of income comes from transporting people and that the fact that the borders have been closed has had a very negative impact on the company's accounts.

The railway sector is also in trouble, he said. "The situation is not good either, due to the paralysis of passenger transport, limited only to the loading of goods, the sector's main source of revenue in general," he said, adding that the same is true in the road sector.

As for the maritime and port sectors, Jorge Bengue explained that for the time being they are not facing a very big drop since these sub-sectors are more focused on the transport of goods - which is still being done. However, he stressed that the impact of covid-19 on these sectors could be felt in the coming days.
