Public universities will charge 20,000 kwanzas to obtain degrees from next academic year

The amount charged by public universities for obtaining diplomas will increase from the next academic year: students who finish the degree will have to pay around 20,000 kwanzas to acquire their diploma, which previously cost 4,000 kwanzas.

According to Novo Jornal, the students of Agostinho Neto University - the largest public school in the country - when they finish their degree will have to pay 20 thousand kwanzas for the diploma. On the other hand, students who study bachelor's degree will have to pay 12 thousand kwanzas for the issuing of the diploma, which previously had a cost of two thousand kwanzas.

The changes will also be felt in public higher education, which will no longer be free. Students who study during the day will now pay tuition fees of 1900 kwanzas per month. For students who study at night, the amount of tuition fees will remain unchanged (15 thousand kwanzas).

These new changes, which come into force from next academic year, are part of a presidential decree, dated 4 May, which sets out the rules for collecting fees and emoluments in higher education.

The document also provides that the official diploma will cost 10,000 kwanzas instead of the 5,000 currently charged.
